Votronic solar controllers of the "MPP" (Maximum Power Point) series with "IU1oU2" charging characteristic are connected as a link between the solar panel(s) and battery(ies).

With MPP technology, the controller automatically determines the maximum power output (MPP) of the solar modules several times per second. It then transforms the excess voltage of the solar module into a higher charging current for the battery (realized by high-frequency switching regulator technology with high efficiency). This additional charging current ensures shorter charging times and the best possible power utilization of the solar system.
MPP solar controllers work fully automatically, are maintenance-free and offer the following functions:

  • MPP charging current increase of 10 % to 30 % (efficiency > 95 %) compared to conventional controllers through the use of the latest controller technology (microprocessor). The increase in performance is particularly noticeable at cooler times of the year and e.g. during high fog conditions, low and diffuse lighting (wintering).
  • Switchable charging characteristics for optimum charging of gel/dryfit, AGM/non-woven or acid/wet and LiFePO4 batteries (see Table 1).
  • The charging voltage is free of peaks and regulated in such a way that overcharging of batteries is ruled out.
  • Two battery charging outputs:Automatic charging of the main or on-board battery (Board I).Support charging and charge retention (max. 1 A) of the vehicle starter battery (Start II) with protection against overcharging.
  • Monitoring-free charging:Standard protection against overload, overheating, reverse polarity and reverse battery discharge (if solar power is too low, e.g. at dusk, at night, etc.).
  • Parallel/buffer operation:Maintains charging characteristics even when loads are operated simultaneously.
  • Overcharge protection: Regulates the charging current of the battery back if there is too much solar power and the battery is full, ensures that the battery is charged to the highest possible level by immediately recharging when power is consumed.
  • "IU1oU2" charging characteristic: Defined charging voltage increase (U1) prevents harmful acid stratification and ensures equalization charging of the individual battery cells, followed by automatic trickle charging (U2).

Improves full charging of the weaker battery in cold weather and prevents unnecessary battery gassing in summer temperatures.
