The right battery for short journeys - that's what matters

In many cases, your own vehicle is mainly used for short journeys. It is important to note that this type of driving can put significantly more strain on the battery than longer journeys due to the frequent starting processes. The question therefore arises as to which battery is particularly recommended in such cases, when the vehicle generally only rarely sees the highway.

The problem of old starter batteries

In addition to the condition of the battery, its age is of decisive importance. Over time, the capacity of the battery decreases, which increases the internal resistance. As a result, the battery has difficulty absorbing charge, which has a negative effect on the charge balance. This problem occurs particularly in the winter months, when more energy is required for cold starting the engine. If additional consumers are activated in the vehicle, the risk of a complete battery failure increases.

The number of additional consumers also plays an important role in choosing the right battery. The differences between short and long-distance journeys are often small in terms of consumers, as comfort in the vehicle cannot be dispensed with. With conventional car batteries, the additional load from the consumers can mean that the battery does not have enough power for a cold start. This can lead to considerable danger while driving.

Your charge balance as key information

A good charge balance is particularly important for many short journeys. In this context, a larger battery is often more advantageous than one that is too small, although the capacity itself is not directly related to the charge balance. However, a larger battery offers more reserves, allowing the battery to be charged quickly in any situation. During longer journeys, the battery can then be recharged to minimize the risk of a false start.

During short journeys, you can improve the charging balance by dispensing with additional consumers. These often only rarely make a significant contribution to driving comfort and are intended more as a supplement in road traffic. In this way, the generator can supply the battery with more power for starting the vehicle, which compensates for the charging losses. This way, you don't have to worry about your battery discharging, especially after long periods of inactivity, and your vehicle no longer being in perfect condition.

More safety with the AGM battery

To provide your vehicle with the best possible technical protection, it is advisable to use an AGM battery. This battery is characterized by a low internal resistance throughout its entire service life. In AGM batteries, the acid is bound in glass fleece, which prevents acid stratification. This helps to prevent damage to the active mass. Thanks to optimized control, the AGM battery is able to absorb a lot of power in the long term, which enables long-lasting and efficient use.

Even when partially discharged, an AGM battery can be operated without any problems and without having to fear any negative effects. So you can always count on safety and mobility on short journeys without having to deactivate your consumers. Ultimately, the choice of battery type for your vehicle is up to you. As long as the charge balance remains positive, there is no need to worry about a defect.
